Bohicket River House
Residences of Distinction
When you arrive at Bohicket River House, you’re greeted by an ancient live oak that watches over the property. Its long, twisted arms are draped in Spanish moss to create the perfect welcome for this stunning John’s Island home.
When the owners acquired the property, they considered building a more standard home plan.
But this is a unique property. Its views of the Bohicket River had to be included in the layout.
After a few conversations, they agreed to meet with a trusted local architect. Those conversations led to a home design with site lines that pull your eyes to the water. The covered deck and pool create excellent entertainment spaces for friends and family.
This home is built to withstand the Lowcountry’s climate. Impact-resistant windows and doors are a primary feature and the cement board siding will weather life along the river. A standing seam roof and copper gutters age perfectly with the house.
The home features two kitchens, one serving as the perfect place to prepare the day’s catch. It continues the culinary legacy of an old barbecue restaurant that once resided on the property. The owners use a formal dining room to host guests who stay overnight in the apartment above the three-car garage.
